How Infrared Saunas Help With Mental Health
Mental health can be scary. For so long, speaking about our mental health was shunned, and we were left to feel ashamed of our struggles. But luckily, times are changing!
Did you know almost 20% of the United States population suffers from an anxiety disorder? From depression to anxiety, to PTSD, mental health is something so many suffer with, and more often than not, suffer silently. And one of them happens to be Nikki, one of City Sweat's very own.
"I have spent most of my life running from my mental health, not fully understanding or accepting my PTSD and Anxiety. I've been so grateful to find a path to better mental health as a woman, a Mom, a friend, and as a human being. When I'm in my sauna, I get that time to let my mind process, heal, or release the struggles I still work through every day. It's not uncommon for me to shed a few tears while I sweat, and I always walk away feeling more equipped to take care of myself and those around me."
Sweating in an infrared sauna produces serotonin and dopamine in the brain while releasing endorphins, leading to healthier brain function and better mood. Infrared therapy also allows the muscles to relax and loosen, relieving tension from the body, which is a common side effect of stress and anxiety. Also, by allowing the body to cool down naturally, melatonin can be produced in the brain, allowing for better and more restful sleep.
These are just more amazing reasons why sweating isn't just for your body, but for your mind and soul too!
